I saw this video of a flash mob created in honor of some bus driver in Copenhagen and had a good chuckle… it’s brilliant!
I thought it was great because:
(a) I love the Danish birthday song
(b) It reminded me of Malcolm’s 6th birthday. He had spent the day at a summer camp at the Pacific Science Center, and we took the bus home.
Being Malcolm he started chatting up some teenage girls sitting next to him (‘Hey – is that an iPhone? Got any games on it?’ etc.) who found him cute and let him play games. Before long he had 7-8 people laughing and watching him because he was being hilarous. He finally announced ‘It’s my birthday today!’.
The bus driver heard this and said over the P.A. ‘Is it somebody’s birthday today?’
’Mine!’ he shouted.
She got on the P.A. again: ‘Attention all passengers: It is Malcolm’s birthday today. Please join me in singing happy birthday to him.’ Then the whole bus sang happy birthday to Malcolm! A great Seattle moment that I’ll never forget. Maybe there’s a reason we like Seattle and Copenhagen so much: People sing to you on your birthday on the bus.
And lastly,
(c ) The Mukhtar video was heart-warming, and I’m a big sap, really.
