out for a stroll with Dawn, Eric and Ian this morning (happy belated first birthday, little fellow!) and we happened upon a nice woman who was busy digging things out of her garden, including a huge but lovely grass. She asked if we wanted it, Susan agreed and so I stuffed it into my little car, Grinch-style, and transplanted at home... et voila!
I think it turned out rather nice, don't you?
While the fall colors are coming on strong right now, we're *still* enjoying tomatoes off of our plants -- and I assume we will until we get a real frost. The cherry tomato plant near the porch is a mutant; here you can see the killer tomato is going for the house
I've been eating tomatoes for breakfast and lunch virtually every day for the past three weeks. This flat was full a few days ago:
Yes the slugs etc. are getting at them, and I've got to slice off the ugly bits. But they're sweet and delicious, and I'd rather have pest scars I can see then pesticides that I can't in my food.
I love tomatoes so very much and getting them in the city this summer has been so expensive. As a vegan I eat lot's of vegetables and can only imagine how dreamy it is to grow your own, so I've been looking at blogs on the subject. Hopefully one day I'll have my own garden... BTW - I love the little dark tomatoes. They taste the best!
