waffles with dawn, eric and ian

we had a lovely brunch with homemade waffles by our foodie friends Dawn and Eric – thanks guys!  Forgot to ask for the recipe, will have to loop back w/them on that :).

Ian is getting big and more engaging like babies do at his age, it reminded us of Malcolm way back when :)…. adorable!

Eric made this time-lapse video of a day in the life of Ian (‘Ianisqatsi’) done in the the style of Koyaanisqatsi which I thought was genius… check it out:

Sam Harris: Science can answer moral questions (TED)

Sam Harris is one of my favorite guys, and he gives a great talk here…

 

“… what the world needs now. It needs people like ourselves to admit that there are right and wrong answers to questions of human flourishing, and morality relates to that domain of facts. It is possible for individuals, and even for whole cultures to care about the wrong things. Which is to say that it's possible for them to have beliefs and desires that reliably lead to needless human suffering. Just admitting this will transform our discourse about morality. We live in a world in which the boundaries between nations mean less and less, and they will one day mean nothing.”

I expect that worldwide universal standards for morality -- and world government -- are inevitable, but not in my lifetime.

weekend bicycle ride

Last weekend was “Chilly Hilly” the first big bike ride of the season.  Those hills were tough!  So this weekend we took the scenic, nearby route and dropped down Meridian (with Malcolm in tow, of course) to Gas Works Park where we were treated to some gorgeous views of the city and Lake Union

 

from there it was onto the Chittenden Locks to take in the salt air and watch the boats go through, then a canal-side coffee in Fremont before climbing back up the hill to home.

Back @ home, the pears along the boulevard in are full bloom…. spring is bursting out all over!
