a few of the adults (including my dad/Malcolm's grand-dad) led Malcolm's kindergarten class in a "wood project day" where they took mostly-built birdhouses and used drills and screwdrivers to assemble the final birdhouse. His school-mate Blake's dad, David, explained where wood comes from, how he used recycled cedar from an old fence to make the birdhouses, where to place them so the returning spring birds will nest in them and how much fun it is to build things out of wood. Woot! The kids seems to love it, and they get their birdfhouses after the science fair.
I know just the spot for Malcolm's birdhouse: There's a douglas fir tree right across from his bedroom window on the 2nd floor, we can nail the birdhouse there so that he can watch birds use it from his window.
It was great to have my dad visit Malcolm's class as well. It combines kids, power tools and working with wood, which are definitely three of his favorite things :).
Snaps are here.
