some good progress this week as they got 90% of the windows in (they'll need four guys to position the big sliding door and transoms in the dining room) plus 90% framing. Starting to look like a house, definitely.
Our friend Alan came by and did a tour w/us and made some good suggestions such as position the large cabinets/room dividers using cardboard cutouts and think about the flow patterns before we build them. Great idea!
I created two new flickr albums which you can see here:
and the whole collection is here.
Wow, it's looking fantastic! I love all the windows in the stairwell.
My parents were doing a bit of renovating on their 30-odd year old house a few years ago and exposed some of the old beams. They uncovered a whole lot of graffiti in the process; lots of 'Bill loves Mary 1966', that sort of thing. They'd written stuff like that to each other during the building of the house when they were young and silly. When my sister built a house recently we all went to town on it with permanent markers, wondering if one day someone might discover the words. We put lots of happy messages, like "may your house always be too small to accommodate all your many friends". It was great fun.

thanks Trish! I love your idea of leaving little messages in the framing - will do that!
WRT windows: Here in mild, overcast Seattle, you almost can't have enough light, especially in winter when it gets dreary.
