Bye!

last day in Denmark

... was August 1st.   Fittingly we spent part of it on the beach -- 'fitting' as we spent our first weekend in DK on the beach in Hornbæk.

Malcolm and Susan on the beach at Vedbæk, last day in DK 31-07-07

It's lovely along the Øresund on a nice summer day.  From the beach in Vedbæk near our hotel (the furniture was all packed and moved, destined for the boat) you can see windmills in Copenhagen on the horizon to the south.

We had a great ~3 years here.  Coming to Europe was something we'd always wanted to do, and if we hadn't had done it now I don't think we ever would have done it.

I learned a lot... about Denmark, a new language, and even something about being an American and the US.  Perhaps absence really does make the heart grow fonder.  Susan did too.  And Malcolm  had a full immersion into Danish language and culture, some of which I don't think he'll ever forget.

His last day at børnehave was a bit sad:  He got some gifts and cards from some of the other kids, and a nice Montessori plaque from his teachers Marianne and Fleming, and there were some teary goodbyes.  But it will make some nice memories.

I won't reiterate all our reactions regarding life in Denmark here -- our inventory post from 2006 covers that.  But suffice to say that it was worth every minute, even if we are glad to be going home. (See also 'You know you've been in Denmark too long when...' :))

This ends a chapter of our lives and this will be the last post here, thanks for coming along!  Vi håbe vi ses igen i fremtiden!

more last hurrahs
